Hitman 2 (PS4)

The Hitman series caught my serious attention when the previous game was free on Playstation Plus last year. I played it and Hitman:Absolution right after and now I am a fan. The newest game in the series came out 2018 and it is similar, almost identical to the previous one. But hey, why fix something that ain´t broke?

The story picks up just where it left off in Hitman (2016) and this time your targets are people part of a global elite that are running the show behind closed doors. If the previous game was about new money, this is about old money. I sometimes get a bit of a Deus Ex wibe from the game and that's a good thing.

But even if the story is intriguing the game is more about gameplay and experimentation. Each mission gives you a sandbox and free hands to assassinate your targets any way you want. There’s almost infinite ways to go about it and each mission is meant to be played several times. You can choose to follow one of the mission stories which will give you a more guided experience and often a pretty cool assassination or you can wing it and do it anyway you like.

You are given a score based on how you complete the mission. The score is impacted negatively  if you are caught, if bodies are found, if you are recorded by video cameras or if you kill non-target individuals.

This sandbox means unexpected things can happen and cool situations will appear. In one of the missions you are in the slums of Mumbai and there are people literally everywhere. I started following the route of one of the targets and at one spot you can catch him all alone. So I walk behind him and just when he enters this spot I take him out with the silent pistol and just walk away. No witnesses.

I know not everyone will like Hitman 2 because it requires a lot of patience and it can be frustrating, but I personally can't get enough of it. You have to be totally concentrated on what you are doing and that’s just the immersive experience I'm after when I play video games. When all that patience is finally rewarded and everything comes together at the end of a mission you can’t help feeling like a real bad ass.
