Interstellar (2014)

Christopher Nolan's newest film Interstellar is a grandiose space adventure that keeps you entertained from start to finish and leaves you wondering and longing for more.

As many of us are getting used to watching more and more series like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad or True Detective you quickly get used to the format of events slowly evolving over the course of a season, ca 10-12 hours long. And even if the movie Interstellar is almost 3 hours long, cramming such a big and complex story as the one in Interstellar into just one movie can be challenging. I think they pulled it of nicely with Interstellar, although you would have wanted to know even more about the characters and the events before. Some scenes that would have been great also fell a bit short.

The music and sound score sets Interstellar apart from many other movies. It's exceptional and powerful and sets the grand scale of the movie making it feel even bigger. It felt a bit like watching the old movies where the music sometimes even drowns out the sound of the actors speaking (which can also be annoying)

And talking about the actors, I've come to respect Matthew McConaughey in a way I didn't think was possible. Even if he wasn't quite as good in this role as he was in the role of Rust Cohle in True Detective, he did a great performance in Interstellar as well. There was a appearance by another actor in the movie also that surprised me (not saying who).

As it often is with Nolan's movies you can't really appreciate them enough after only one viewing and often the second viewing becomes a very different experience once you've seen the ending. And as usual the grand reveal in Interstellar is pretty extraordinary, although the very ending is a bit to Hollywoody in my opinion. However, after reading some theories about the ending, everything might not be as it seems. And that's what I love about Nolan's movies, some things are not explicitly revealed but often left open for interpretation.
