Resident Evil 6
RESIDENT EVIL... SIX!
Well the Resident Evil franchise has been with us since Playstation 1 and have evolved a lot over the years. Going from scary ass horror survival games to more of a jacked up, full on action adventure. I think however part of why the Resident Evil games don't seem scary anymore is that most of us have been desensitized to the point that nothing really CAN scare us anymore.
Resident Evil 5 was a great game and I hate to say that Resident Evil 6 doesn't really live up to it's predecessor. Some of the good elements are there but it's just a lot messier and inconsistent and they've really gone overboard with all the ridicluous action sequences. It's not as challenging and strategically fun either.
Despite that what ultimately sets both Resident Evil 5 and 6 aside from other games is their great split-screen co-op. Which means you can play the whole campaign with a friend right by your side. There aren't just that many games out there that offer this option and I really can't understand why? I've been playing these games with my roommate and let me tell you... it's a whole lot of fun. A lot more entertaining than it would be playing alone. So, more co-op, please!
In Resident Evil 6 there are four different campaigns with eight different characters (if you count Ada's partner "Agent"). This is a refreshing touch and makes both the game and the story more interesting as the campaigns intertwine with each other. The campaigns are not all equally good but all of them are good in some way. (and bad in some ways) Of all the campaigns, I think I enjoyed Leon's and Helena's campaign the most. The dialog between the characters is pretty cheesy and you can expect some dry humor, but it's pretty entertaining I guess and almost seems intentionally ironic. It's also one of the reason you can't take the horror element in the game too seriously (but maybe you're not even supposed to?)
Why should you play Resident Evil 6? Well, it's one of the few good co-op games out there and... who can get tired of shooting zombies anyway?
