Infamous: Second Son

I had already played the expansion Infamous: First Light last year so from the moment I began playing Second Son I almost knew what to expect. A fast paced action adventure, a visually appealing light show with cool, interesting characters. What I didn't expect was the challenging but rewarding boss fights.

The story of Infamous: Second Son revolves around a young man named Delsin. He's an up-to-no-good type of guy, always doing mischeif and getting in to trouble. One day he gets in contact with some escaped conduits  or "bioterrorists" as they are also called. These are people with special powers who have been locked up by an organization called the DUP to keep them from harming themselves or others.

It turns out Delsin has the ability to absorb special powers from other conduits and from the moment he got his first power, the power to turn into smoke, he was a wanted man. Luckily he has his brother to help him out and together they decide to take down the DUP and their leader, Augustine, once and for all.

Infamous: Second Son was one of the first games released for the PS4 and you can clearly see that it wants to show you that it's a real next gen game. It looks pretty incredible. Colors are vibrant, beautiful reflections are everywhere and the characters facial expressions are very well made. As always, Troy Baker delivers a wonderful performance as Delsin and the dialogue between the two brothers feels real and clever.

The feeling I love about starting a new game is that feeling of novelty. Everything that is new about a game feels exciting and I can't wait to really dive into the game and explore all of it. The bad thing is that in some cases the feeling of novelty quite quickly wears of. In the case of Second Son, that happened faster than I would have wanted and I think that was in part due to that I had already played First Light. Even Saints Row IV felt very similar to Second Son. So the biggest problem I had with Second Son is that I couldn't stay excited until the end, even if the game wasn't particularly long.

Aside from that I must say that Second Son is a cool and very visually appealing game but it felt a bit short and the missions felt similar. The challenging boss fights were both fun and frustrating (the way they're supposed to) and the music and voice acting was good. It's a decent action adventure but not the greatest one out there.

7.5/10
