Arkham Origins

The third installment in the Arkham series, Arkham Origins, is a prequel to the first two games where you play a younger, more brutal Batman who, for the first time, comes in contact with the Joker. It's also a Christmas themed game that I got the chance to play during the holidays.

A good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it, is that Arkham Origins is very similar to the two previous games, not really improving or adding anything special to the game world or the gameplay.

I've quite recently replayed the two previous games, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City which both have an excellent atmosphere and great characters with exciting and rewarding gameplay. Arkham Origins is almost as good in terms of atmosphere and gameplay but as I said, doesn't add anything original to the mix. So when you've played all three games in a row it tends to get a bit repetitive.

Arkham Origins is developed by a different studio and some voice actors have been changed also. The excellent performances of Mark Hamill as the Joker has been replaced by an equally skilled actor, Troy Baker and the voice of Batman is now played by Roger Craig Smith (Ezio).

Things I liked about the game:

- The shock gloves
- New enemy types
- Voice performance
- Music

And all the things which also made the previous games great:

- Dark atmosphere
- Challenging but rewarding boss fights
- Great mix between stealth and open combat

8/10
