Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments

Lets just ignore the fact that I haven't written a review in like five months and get straight down to it. Over the last five months I've played in total three whole games, GTA V to PS4, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments and Far Cry 4. Currently I'm playing Alien Isolation (more on that later).

Anyway first on my list of games to review is Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments which was one of the free games on Playstation Plus earlier this year.

Sherlock Holmes is an adventure/puzzle game where you play as Sherlock Holmes (no shit..uhm...Sherlock) and together with your trusted friend Doctor Watson, you solve all kinds of different crimes.

The gameplay focuses on exploring crime scenes, examining clues and questioning suspects and witnesses. Inside of Sherlocks "mind palace" (if you are familiar with the show) you then make your conclusion about the case by making deductions by linking different pieces of information together. How you make these deductions can lead you to different conclusions about the case. There is therefore a small chance that if you've missed just a tiny piece of evidence, you might accuse the wrong person of a crime.

Examining crime scenes takes time and focus. The game is not one you rush through through from start to finish, cases might take a while to solve. I used to solve like one case every evening after work and that helped me to keep my focus enough to examine every clue. I might add that I still made some mistakes in the game and sent at least one wrong person to prison.

While not a very exciting or visually and technically outstanding game Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments is an appealing adventure and puzzle game with very satisfying moments. Like when you find that one missing piece of evidence that finally solves the whole case. On top of that there´s an atmosphere and feel that makes it a solid Sherlock Holmes game.

7.5/10
